Types of Dealer
Licenses
Retail:
For selling cars to the public (includes
wholesaling privileges). This is
the license where dealers can make the
most money.
Wholesale:
For selling cars to dealers, usually
through the dealer auction (note that a
Retail license includes the wholesale
license).
Commercial:
For selling commercial vehicles such as
big rigs, box vans, cargo vans, tow
trucks, flat bed trucks and any truck
with an "open type"
bed. (note: a Retail
license above includes Commercial
privileges).
Autobroker:
For negotiating deals between buyers and
OTHER dealers. Usually involves
NEW vehicles. You may collect a
broker's commission, typically between
$500 and $1,500 per car.
